Filters for combustion engines and air conditioning systems prevent microscopic particles and sometimes pathogens and pollen while allowing enough air to protect the mechanism. Air intake reduces engine power and fuel efficiency. Air permeability measurements may be used to determine filter effectiveness and longevity.
